2022 Tournament

The Islands Pickleball Association (IPA) hosted its annual in-house tournament this year at Donaldson Park on August 24, 25 & 27. The tournament consisted of 3 levels – Novice 2.0-2.75, Intermediate 3.0-3.5 and Advanced 3.5 and above. The Novice level was mixed with both men and women. At the Intermediate and Advanced levels, there was a Women’s Division and a Men’s Division. All levels used a Round Robin format, which meant you did not have a specific partner, rather each competitor played in turn against different players within their level. Win or lose, all points counted and the total points were accumulated at the end of each division of play. The players with the most points at the end of each division advanced to the playoffs. Playoffs were the best of 2 out of 3 games. Prizes were awarded for 1st and 2nd place at each level.
The tournament was completed on Saturday, August 27 and despite 2 days of rain interruption, all of the matches were played and everyone had a great time. Winning players from each group were awarded a $50 gift certificate to an area business that supported our tournament through a generous donation. Most importantly, through everyone’s generosity, over $13,000 was raised to go towards the implementation of 4 brand new Pickleball courts at Knight Point State Park. Contributions came from both players in the tournament and IPA members who were not able to attend. Thank you to everyone for supporting our efforts to upgrade the Pickleball experience in your area!
A very big thank you to the tournament committee members who met several times to iron out all of the details to provide a well run and fun tournament and the many other volunteers who came and helped out on tournament days! Committee members were: Tim O’Reilly, Ruth Casey, Dee Steffen, Cheryl Bradley-Valyou, Court Perry, Jane Dall, Anza Myers, John Miner.
