2024 Islands Pickleball Association Tournament
The IPA Tournament Committee is excited to announce our season opening tournament scheduled for Thursday June 20 and Friday June 21st. Immediately following the play on Friday (around 12:00) we will also hold our annual IPA picnic. All events will be at Donaldson Park in Grand Isle. Rain dates will be Monday June 24 and Tuesday June 25.
There will be a more specific announcement the week of June 3rd but here are a few things to assist you in signing up for our tournament:
- This will be a fun “kick off the summer” event so there will not be an entry fee.
- It will be a Round Robin format so you will have a variety of partners you play with.
- Most likely, everyone will play 6 games during their level of play.
- Depending on the number of people who sign up we plan to have a Women’s. Men’s. and Mixed format of play. For example, if 8 women and 4 men sign up for one level then we will hold a mixed format for that group.
- There will be 2-3 levels of play based on the registrations:
- Below 3.0 – Novice to Low Intermediate
- 3.0 – 3.5 – Low Intermediate to High Intermediate
- 3.5+ and above – Advanced
- Scoring will be on a play to 11 win by 1 format.
- Registration will begin on June 10; watch for an email with registration instructions.
While the two days of tournament play are intended to have some competitive fun, EVERYONE is invited to attend our picnic on Friday June 21st. The picnic should begin around 12:00. We are looking forward to some great Pickleball and for the opportunity to see everyone at the picnic.
2023 Islands Pickleball Association Tournament
The Islands Pickleball Association (IPA) hosted its annual in-house tournament this year at Donaldson Park on August 22, 23 & 24. The tournament consisted of 6 Divisions. All divisions used a Round Robin format, which meant you did not have a specific partner, rather each competitor played in turn against different players within their level. Win or lose, all points counted and the total points were accumulated at the end of each division of play. The players with the most points at the end of each division advanced to the playoffs. Prizes were awarded for 1st and 2nd place at each division.
The tournament was completed on Thursday, August 24 after three incredible, perfect days of weather; all of the matches were played and everyone had a great time. Winning players from each group were awarded a $50 gift certificate to the Alpine Shop, Vermont’s largest pickleball shop and the proud locally owned retail sponsor of the IPA. Most importantly, all proceeds from the tournament go towards the implementation of 4 brand new Pickleball courts at Knight Point State Park (KPSP). Thank you to everyone for supporting our efforts to upgrade the Pickleball experience in your area!
Beth Mintz was the winner of the 50/50 raffle, which totaled $864 in monies collected, half of which will go toward KPSP.
A very big thank you to the tournament committee members who met several times to iron out all of the details to provide a well run and fun tournament and the many other volunteers who came and helped out on tournament days! 2022 Islands Pickleball Association Tournament

The Islands Pickleball Association (IPA) hosted its annual in-house tournament this year at Donaldson Park on August 24, 25 & 27. The tournament consisted of 3 levels – Novice 2.0-2.75, Intermediate 3.0-3.5 and Advanced 3.5 and above. The Novice level was mixed with both men and women. At the Intermediate and Advanced levels, there was a Women’s Division and a Men’s Division. All levels used a Round Robin format, which meant you did not have a specific partner, rather each competitor played in turn against different players within their level. Win or lose, all points counted and the total points were accumulated at the end of each division of play. The players with the most points at the end of each division advanced to the playoffs. Playoffs were the best of 2 out of 3 games. Prizes were awarded for 1st and 2nd place at each level.
The tournament was completed on Saturday, August 27 and despite 2 days of rain interruption, all of the matches were played and everyone had a great time. Winning players from each group were awarded a $50 gift certificate to an area business that supported our tournament through a generous donation. Most importantly, through everyone’s generosity, over $13,000 was raised to go towards the implementation of 4 brand new Pickleball courts at Knight Point State Park. Contributions came from both players in the tournament and IPA members who were not able to attend. Thank you to everyone for supporting our efforts to upgrade the Pickleball experience in your area!
